The force of incoming tidal waves, rising high in succession, tumbling towards you on the shore.
Capturing a spellbinding, mesmerising moment in nature, a fragment of our blue planet, the vast swirling seawater catches flashes of reflected, twinkling sunlight dancing on the surface and in the sea spray, as if jewelled by trillions of diamonds.
Painted over time from endless, en plein air studies and research by Johanna, while standing on the shores of the Celtic Sea and Atlantic Ocean.

Original art inspired by our beautiful Devon and Cornwall coastline,
from land to the sea.
A walk on a summer’s evening around 7pm, it is sunny and warm and the tide is high by Appledore Quayside. I look towards the old Shipyard of Richmond Dock and notice the small wooden boat resting and gently swaying. It looks comfortable with the sail rolled up, so I decide to capture it using fine paint brush and black ink onto 300gsm watercolour paper. I carry art materials around with me so I can spontaneously capture a moment.
The sultry evening was wonderfully busy with activity on the water. I was easily distracted, watching everyone having fun sailing, kayaking, quay jumping, and swimming.

Inspired by dreamy walks along the beach in North Devon, casually and spontaneously finding these wondrous creations by Molluscs. Discovery days have been hot and sultry with the sun beating down, another it has been that familiar English overcast grey blanket of cloud, or an evening walk along the glistening waters edge while watching the sun set. Each time, there beholds a sprinkling of shells left by the generous ebbing tide.
Small Whelk and Periwinkle Shell on the incoming tide of shifting and changing sands from ebb and flow. A walk along the shoreline as the tide is lapping at your feet, reveals here and there some lovely finds.
Each shell is drawn in fine black pen, the canvas is painted and sprayed with professional acrylic paint.
The canvas is unframed and ready to hang with picture wire, but framing is recommended for ultimate professional effect.

This is an original art work, the shell is hand drawn with fine pen, laid onto a gold leaf circle with a black canvas background which gives an instantly chic, classical and stylish feel. This beauty will look good in a traditional or contemporary interior design scheme.
As you move around the room the canvas shimmers in different light, day to night. The gold glows sensationally and adds tasteful, gentle glamour. We can all do with some of that!

Celtic Sea Whitewater
A perfect sunny day with an effervescent, incoming tide, waves peaking and rolling over turning into whitewater. The Celtic Sea holds a mesmerising stance along the North Devon & North Cornish coast, I love to watch waves for endless time.
The composition is captured on a round canvas, I felt the curved edge reflected the repetitive shapes that waves form, as well as the feeling of peering through a porthole, so your gaze focuses within a hypnotising circumference.
